An enjoyable evening at the Georgian Society Awards was topped off with picking up a commendation award for the restoration and re-use of the former gunpowder store at Donaghadee, now converted into a visitor attraction with Ireland's first camera obscura.

New appointment - Jan 2022

Alastair Coey Architects are very pleased to be appointed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland to act as Project Conservation Architect for MetroLink. MetroLink is a transformative piece of new public transport infrastructure, the first of its kind in Ireland comprising a high-capacity, high-frequency, modern and efficient metro railway, with 16 new stations running from Swords to Charlemont.

Further success has been achieved for the work at Carrickfergus Castle winning a RSUA Design Award and Sustainability Award and RIBA Northern Ireland Award. The project was also awarded RSUA Client of the Year to the Department for Communities.

The installation of a traditionally detailed medieval oak truss roof at Carrickfergus Castle has won the Restoration Conservation category at the annual Woods Awards Ireland. The principal trusses of the new roof were constructed from Irish oak felled by Storm Ophelia in 2017.

St George’s Hall Bradford, has been nominated as a Finalist in the 2019 LABC Awards. Well done to the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and everyone involved in the £8m restoration of one of Bradford’s finest historic buildings.

The restoration and extension the Old Church in Cushendun is nearing completion. Since appearing on the 2006 BBC Restoration programme, the Cushendun Building Preservation Trust have worked tirelessly to secure funding for the project which will soon establish a cultural, arts and heritage centre in the Antrim Glens.

Glynneath Gunpowder Works, Brecon Beacons National Park has been shortlisted for the 2019 RICS Awards. The £1m, HLF funded project set about stabilising and conserving numerous Scheduled Monuments on the site of the former gunpowder factory located in Pontneddfechan for the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

Work in progress - Work has commenced on the external restoration of St George’s Hall Bradford. The work to this famous Grade II* listed concert hall includes roofing repairs, masonry repairs and window refurbishment. The works are due for completion in 2018.

In 2015 Historic England appointed Ecorys UK and Alastair Coey Architects to conduct the first comprehensive survey of historic property owners across England. The survey forms a key plank of Heritage Counts 2015, the annual survey of the state of England's historic environment.

As part of our on going consultancy to the NIEA for historic masonry monuments, Alastair Coey Architects are currently preparing a report on the condition of one of Northern Irelands most iconic structures using thermal imagery and GPR (ground penetrating radar), surveys to identify source of water penetration and voids within the structure.
