The Royal Belfast Academical Institution is a Grade A listed building built to designs prepared by the eminent architect Sir John Soane between 1810 and 1814. Alastair Coey Architects were appointed in 2011 to prepare a condition report and specification for the renovation of the external fabric of the Soane building and north wing. Works include conservation of windows, brickwork and stonework, re-slating of roofs with new tapered lead gutters, timber roof structure repairs, replacement of cast iron rainwater goods and restoration of lead hoppers. The work was divided into phases and is due for completion in 2015. The works to date on the Soane building were highly commended at the Irish Georgian Society Awards in 2014.
